5 years and 598 posts later...

Yeah, that's right, it's my blog's birthday! I started this thing 5 years ago today. I still can't believe I've kept it running this long....less that people actually take the time to read it and comment on the stuff I make! That's pretty amazing, and I really am grateful for that. The online sewing community is a really nice place to hang out, isn't it?

The other big milestone-ish thing coming up is that I'm almost at 600 posts! (I tried really hard to work it so that today would be both, but I didn't quite make it. Oh well.) So since this is basically a double big thing, I figured this would be a good time to do a long-overdue giveaway! When I asked earlier in the summer what people would be interested in for that, the couple of responses I got were some kind of crafting supply, and something that could be sent overseas. (I seem to run into a lot of people from England and Australia through this!) I also want to make this fair to the knitters that have started showing up around here since the beginning of the year, so here's what I'm going to do:

Whoever wins the giveaway will get one $30 gift certificate (US dollars) to the sewing or knitting-related shop to their choice. (It can be a major retailer, indie shop, Etsy--as long as I can get a gift certificate for it online!) So to enter, you need to answer two questions:

1. What shop would you pick?
2. What project are you most excited to make this fall?

No anonymous comments, please-- I need to have some way of contacting you! I'm going to give you until midnight EST on September 19.

Edit, 9/20: This giveaway is now CLOSED. I'll be drawing the winner later today.

  1. Such a generous offer. Being an Aussie, I'm thinking spring not autumn, but it's all about colour for me. I'm also loving Philip Lam's latest collection and wedge shoes. I'd choose the BMV pattern club site http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/
as I'm always ordering patterns from them.

  2. Congratulations, Becky! I'll leave the give-away for others - I already have way more projects than I have time to get to! But FIVE years and almost 600 posts is amazing! :)

  3. YAY! Here's to many more!
I think I would probably go for fabric.com or fabricmartfabrics.com... linen is on my list for napkins for wedding presents.

  4. Congrats on 5 years and almost 600 posts! :)
That's a very generous giveaway! I've been a bit too busy to think concrete thoughts about fall sewing so far, but I'm definitely excited about the knit dress I'm planning on knitting. It's my first big knitting project! I don't like shopping online for fabrics, so I'd go for a pattern shop. Colette has some cute new patterns for fall and I've been eying the Chantilly dress for a while!
(Speaking of giveaways, did the Lonsdale dress pattern make its way to you alright?)

  5. I'd have to say fabric.com, since they have the fabric I want to use for my upcoming skirt project. =)

Congrats on 5 years of blogging, that's awesome!

  6. Congratulations! I just past 5 years too!
I'd love knitpicks.com or elann.com. I'd really love to do a complicated Fair Isle cardigan this fall as all my kids are finally in school full time. However, I'm going on a cruise in late Oct. so I need to sew some things to wear!

  7. Wow, 5 years is a long time. I'm sure it's nice to be able to look back on projects you might not have remembered clearly otherwise.
I agree, this IS a generous giveaway. I think I'd pick Colette patterns, since I admire the patterns, but have never wanted to spend the $$ for one.

Great giveaway! I think I'd pick fabric.com or Etsy. This fall I'm most looking forward to finally finishing a project I started several years ago. I have a quilt with circle appliques that has been sitting in my to finish pile for two years. I've finally gotten motivated to finish it and I can't wait to get started! Congratulations on 5 years and thanks for the giveaway! jeanninecook(at)yahoo(dot)com

  9. I would pick a fabric shop on Etsy, probably Fresh Squeezed Fabrics, and I'd buy fabric that I have NO plans for, so I could finally make something for ME!

  10. I'm only a year and a half into my blog. I imagine that five years passes in the blink of an eye?? Congratulations! (I love the shirt six ways post, btw. I need to rethink some of my wardrobe, and that's a great way to do it!) Let's see, I would probably have to say that I'd go with Colette Patterns. I've been dreaming of sewing the Crepe dress for a while. But, I haven't gotten around to it because I am (and for the foreseeable future will be) working on a small double wedding ring quilt thing. I think that it'll be a table topper eventually, because I didn't want to undertake a whole quilt. It's my first attempt at paper piecing, and it's. . . interesting. :-)

  11. Congratulations! 5 years and 600 posts--that is quite an accomplishment. Thank you for the opportunity to win a prize. My autumn project is a blouse or a dress and the ideal fabric shop would be Emma One Sock.com , I wish you all the success on your projects. :)

    Thank you!

  12. Congratulations! I would say Fabric Mart would be my pick. I am trying to make a new jacket and skirt to wear to a luncheon in November.

  13. I've been thinking about this giveaway since you first posted it! I can't choose a shop and was wondering if I could win the voucher to your favourite online yarn shop if I'm lucky enough to be the winner? Thanks for the chance to win, and may you have many more years of blogging ahead of you!

  14. Sorry! Forgot to say I'm excited to be knitting ski socks this fall - I figure that'll give me enough time to have them finished for Christmas hopefully!

  15. Congratulations! What an amazing accomplishment! I've blogged 42 entries and am overwhelmed! I can't wait to hit 600... Actually, I don't know if I have 600 things worthy of talking about. LOL

I would have to say Amazon, so I could get a Colette Rooibos and her upcoming book!

    Fingers crossed!
