This is my rather sad attempt at a welt pocket. Which, frankly, looks awful and won't lie flat at all. Especially in the corners. Since I already cut the slash, I'm not sure how to salvage this. I could maybe widen the seam allowance and make the welts more narrow, but it may be too late.Needless to say, this is why welt pockets are on my check the technique list. I've never managed a good one yet.
See if you can snip further into the corners. If you don't go right to the stitching line (scary!) They won't lie flat

DeleteOh no! (I've never made a welt pocket either. I'm scared!) Since I have very little knowledge about the technique I have no idea how to correct it or make it better. Would sewing it shut and keeping it non-functional work, maybe? As a last resort, I guess you could sew it shut and place a patch pocket over it?
ReplyDeleteIt may have to be non functional, as it gaps quite a bit between the welts.

Did you interface the living daylights out of everything? I find that helps. Also - put welt pockets in scraps! thats how I learned.
ReplyDeleteI did make sure to interface all the welts! And yeah, scrap practice might help.
